Everything Everywhere All at Once Gets the Highest Prize at the PGA Awards

In the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the Producers Guild of America Awards for 2023 are now being held. These honors are regarded as a reliable predictor of which movies will likely take home the top Oscar. Seven films, including “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans,” “Tár,” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” have been nominated for this year’s best picture award.

The PGA has nominated four sequels this year for the first time, including “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Tom Cruise, an actor and producer, also received the David O. Selznick Achievement Award, which honors a producer or producing team for exceptional performance in the film industry. Steven Spielberg, Barbara Broccoli, Mary Parent, Brian Grazer, David Heyman, and Kevin Feige are some of the previous winners of this honor.

Just three movies since 2009 have won the PGA without also winning the Best Picture Oscar: “The Big Short” (2015), “La La Land” (2016), and “1917.” (2019). Even films that received mixed reviews, like “Green Book” (2018) and last year’s unexpected last-minute winner “CODA” (2021), have shown their strength with the group before winning the Oscar.

Beginning on March 2, final voting for the Academy Awards will take place.
