Limited iPhone synchronization is supported by Windows 11 Phone Link in the preview.

Microsoft is taking a significant step towards making iPhone syncing available on Windows 11. The company has recently announced that the Insider preview of Phone Link will now support iPhones. This feature, previously known by several different names, has been compatible with Android phones since 2015.

Initially, the preview will allow you to sync calls, messages, and contacts from your iPhone to your Windows 11 PC. These notifications will appear just like any other Windows notification. However, there are some limitations to the feature. For instance, you won’t be able to reply to group messages, and sending media files in messages is not supported. Nonetheless, it’s a big step forward for the feature that has so far left out numerous users who use both iPhones and Windows PCs.

Microsoft has announced that Phone Link for iPhones will only roll out to a small percentage of Windows Insiders this week, and not all Insiders will see the option immediately. Instead, the company will expand the preview to more Insiders as it receives feedback from the first batch of testers. Furthermore, the feature’s access is cloud-based, so there won’t be a specific version of the Phone Link app that enables you to use the preview immediately.

If you’re among the few users who are accepted, you’ll see an option to link your iPhone in the Phone Link app. After choosing it, the app will guide you through the steps to pair your phone and PC over Bluetooth, including scanning a QR code. You’ll also need to confirm a code and grant permissions on both the Windows and iOS sides to ensure that everything syncs up.

This feature is similar to Intel’s Unison app, which allows calls, messages, notifications, and file transfers between phones (including iPhones) and Intel PCs. Several third-party apps like AirDroid have offered similar functionality for years.
