Trump wins the CPAC straw poll with ease.

On Saturday, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held its highly-anticipated straw poll, and former President Donald Trump emerged as the clear winner. This victory is symbolic as he attempts to win back the White House in 2024 and shows his popularity among Republican grassroots.

Trump secured 62 percent of the votes, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is considered his closest contender, received 20 percent. Businessman Perry Johnson, who recently announced his candidacy for the presidency, managed to secure only 5 percent of the votes.

The results were not unexpected, as Trump has consistently been the top choice in the previous five CPAC straw polls, which are used to measure the presidential preferences of conference attendees.

Last year, the straw poll at CPAC in Orlando, Florida showed that Trump had 59 percent support, while DeSantis had 28 percent. However, over the years, CPAC has become more favorable towards Trump, and this has caused several potential 2024 presidential candidates, including DeSantis, Pence, and Scott, to skip the event.

This year, Trump is expected to speak at the conference on Saturday evening, while two other presidential hopefuls, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, have already given speeches earlier in the week.
