Ja Morant, an NBA player, showed what seemed to be a pistol on Instagram Live early yesterday. Nike has replied.

“We value Ja’s responsibility and the effort he is making to find the assistance he requires. We agree with his decision to put his health first, Nike stated in a statement.

Nike has issued a statement in response to an incident involving Ja Morant, one of their sponsored athletes. The statement was released after Morant’s team, the Memphis Grizzlies, announced that he would be away from the team for at least the next two games.

The incident occurred when Morant went on Instagram Live from a club on Saturday morning and appeared to be holding a gun. The video quickly circulated on social media, prompting Morant to release a statement taking full responsibility for his actions and apologizing to his family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire Grizzlies organization.

In his statement, Morant also announced that he would be taking some time away from the team to seek help and work on better methods of dealing with stress and his overall well-being. He has since deactivated his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Morant is one of the few athletes sponsored by Nike to have a signature shoe, the Ja 1, which was revealed in late-December. At the time of its reveal, Nike praised Morant for representing the next generation of basketball players and setting an example for Gen Z athletes everywhere through his creativity, authenticity, and style.
