Bing from Microsoft now has 100 million active users owing to Edge and AI conversation.

According to Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s VP for Modern Life, Search and Devices, Bing has surpassed 100 million daily active users a month after the launch of its chatbot AI. Although Bing is still considered a small player with a low, single-digit share, the tech giant has seen an increase in usage after releasing its next-gen version. Mehdi noted that one-third of Bing’s daily active users are new to the search engine, and this increase in numbers is seen as a validation of Microsoft’s view that search is due for reinvention.

Microsoft has also experienced growth in engagement, with more people conducting more searches. This victory is attributed to two factors: Edge’s growth in usage, most likely aided by the addition of Bing’s chat AI as a new feature, and the introduction of its Prometheus AI model, which has made Bing’s search results more relevant.

About one third of Bing’s daily preview users use its chat AI for their queries every day, and Microsoft is seeing three chats per session on average. Over 45 million chats have taken place since the introduction of the new Bing, and 15 percent of all chat sessions involve people using Bing to generate new content. The launch of Bing’s AI chatbot on mobile has also propelled the search engine to a new level of popularity and has led to a six-time increase in daily active users since its availability.

By integrating an AI chatbot into Bing earlier this year, Microsoft has given its search engine a competitive edge against Google. However, Google plans to launch a chatbot of its own and recently introduced a chat AI called Bard, which initially spouted misinformation during its unofficial debut. Google is working with employees to improve the chatbot’s responses before its official release.
