At CES 2024, LG unveiled the inaugural wireless transparent OLED TV, marking a pioneering achievement in the realm of television technology.

LG traditionally unveils an array of new television models at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) each year, generally featuring more conventional flat screens. However, this year in Las Vegas, the company is introducing a distinctive addition alongside updates to its M- and G-series. Termed the OLED T, LG presents it as the inaugural wireless transparent OLED TV, boasting 4K resolution and incorporating LG’s advanced wireless transmission technology for audio and video. Notably, the unit includes a contrast screen that can be rolled down into a base box, offering the convenience of raising or lowering it at the touch of a button.

The OLED T is driven by LG’s latest Alpha 11 AI processor, demonstrating a fourfold increase in performance compared to its predecessor. This enhanced processing power delivers a remarkable 70% improvement in graphics performance and a 30% increase in processing speed, as asserted by the company. Compatible with LG’s Zero Connect Box, introduced with last year’s M3 OLED, the OLED T facilitates wireless transmission of video and audio from the box to the TV, where all streaming devices and gaming consoles can be connected to the box rather than directly to the television.

The base of the OLED T accommodates down-firing speakers, exhibiting unexpectedly impressive sound quality, along with various other components. While backlights are present, they can be activated to achieve a fully transparent aesthetic. LG has indicated that the TV will be available in standalone, against-the-wall, and wall-mounted configurations. Initial impressions of the OLED T may be slightly disconcerting due to its transparent display, creating a surreal effect, such as a singer appearing to be physically present in miniature form. However, visuals like a fish tank are more visually pleasing, and movie clips demonstrate crisp and vivid images. LG has also integrated the T-Bar on the OLED T, featuring a chyron-like display of news, weather updates, song titles, and more along the bottom while the rest of the screen remains clear.

In a parallel development, Samsung has also unveiled a transparent TV at CES 2024, utilizing Micro OLED technology. While it shares similar attributes of brightness and sharpness with the LG counterpart, details regarding its availability and pricing remain undisclosed. LG, likewise, has refrained from divulging pricing information but has confirmed its intention to make the OLED TV available for purchase in 2024.
