The Apple Vision Pro headset is set to debut in the United States on February 2, with preorders kicking off on January 19.

Apple’s Vision Pro is set to make its debut in the U.S. on February 2, as announced in a press release on Monday. Preorders for the innovative headset will kick off on January 19 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time, according to details available on the Vision Pro’s product page.

In the release, Apple disclosed that prescription lens inserts for the Vision Pro will be priced at $149, and the headset will come equipped with a substantial 256 GB of storage. The premarket trading on Monday witnessed a 0.75% rise in Apple shares.

Positioned as Apple’s response to Meta’s Quest headsets, the Vision Pro, priced at $3,500, has been under development for several years and was officially unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference in 2023.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, boldly stated, “The era of spatial computing has arrived,” emphasizing the significance of the new headset. Fueled by Apple’s M2 chip, identical to the one powering its computers, the Vision Pro marks Apple’s first foray into a new product category since the launch of the Apple Watch in 2015.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the Vision Pro, industry analysts and experts predict that the headset may not generate substantial revenue initially. UBS, for instance, estimates Vision Pro revenue to be approximately $1.4 billion, deeming it a “relatively immaterial” amount.

The Vision Pro introduces a novel operating system, VisionOS, coupled with an innovative input system that enables users to control the headset through their eyes, hands, and voice. Apple assures compatibility with various productivity and creativity apps, including Microsoft’s Office suite and Salesforce’s Slack.

The ambitious headset aims to revolutionize the consumer experience in gaming and video content. Users will have the ability to immerse themselves in virtual reality screens, providing a cinematic experience described by Apple as feeling “100 feet wide.” The Vision Pro’s arrival marks a notable step forward in Apple’s pursuit of shaping the future of immersive technology.
