The United States Navy successfully intercepts a barrage of missiles and drones launched by Houthi forces from Yemen over the Red Sea, according to the US Central Command.

The US Navy intercepted and neutralized 21 missiles and drones launched by Houthi militants from Yemen, marking one of the largest attacks in the Red Sea recently, as reported by US Central Command. The attack, attributed to Iranian-backed forces, included 18 one-way attack drones, two anti-ship cruise missiles, and one anti-ship ballistic missile. Launched toward international shipping lanes in the southern Red Sea, the barrage targeted numerous merchant vessels, with no reported damage or injuries.

The complex defense operation involved three destroyers, including two US destroyers and the UK’s HMS Diamond, along with F-18 fighter jets from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier. The attack occurred amid US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to the Middle East to address the Gaza conflict and prevent regional escalation.

The Houthi attacks, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, have targeted commercial vessels linked to Israel. Despite global condemnation and warnings, the Houthis continue such assaults, impacting international shipping and necessitating a collaborative international solution. Central Command emphasized that the consequences of these attacks extend globally, underscoring the urgency for a coordinated response.
