Attack by Ukrainian Drones Targets Russian Oil Depot in Ukraine Conflict
Russian media has reported that a fire broke out in four oil tanks, spreading across an area of 1,000 square meters (10,763 square feet). Authorities in the Bryansk region confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident.
The governor of Bryansk stated that a drone was intercepted near the town of Klintsy, and its explosives subsequently fell on an oil depot, resulting in the fire. Remarkably, this marks the second drone strike on Russian oil facilities within a span of two days.
In a separate unprecedented attack on Thursday, a major oil loading terminal in St Petersburg, Russia’s second city, was targeted. Initial Russian reports suggested that the drone responsible for the attack was successfully shot down without causing any damage. However, there are indications from Kyiv that this strike, occurring so far from the Ukrainian border, signifies a new phase in strategy.
Ukraine’s Strategic Industries Minister, Oleksandr Kamyshin, confirmed the successful targeting of the drone, stating, “Yes, last night we hit the target. This thing crossed 1,250 kilometers (776 miles) last night.” The developments point towards an evolving and geographically expansive approach in the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
