Novak Djokovic Matches Roger Federer’s Record, Advances to Australian Open Quarterfinals with Remarkable Display, Losing Only Three Games.

Novak Djokovic delivered a remarkable performance, securing his spot in the Australian Open quarterfinals with an impressive 6-0 6-0 6-3 victory over France’s Adrian Mannarino on Sunday. This marks Djokovic’s 58th appearance in the last eight of a Grand Slam, tying Roger Federer’s all-time record.

Despite facing challenges in the initial rounds, dropping sets along the way, Djokovic displayed a formidable rhythm as the tournament progressed. Reflecting on his performance, he stated, “The first two sets [were some] of the best sets I’ve played in a while,” according to the ATP Tour.

While Djokovic dominated the first two sets without conceding a game, he narrowly missed achieving a rare triple bagel. Mannarino, however, managed to secure a game in the third set. Djokovic explained, “I really wanted to lose that game in the third set because the tension was building up so much in the stadium. I just needed to get that one out of the way so I can refocus on what I needed to do to close out the match.”

In the quarterfinals, Djokovic is set to face Taylor Fritz, who caused an upset by defeating last year’s finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3 6-3 in the fourth round. Fritz, the 12th seed in the tournament, achieved his maiden Australian Open quarterfinal appearance with a remarkable performance, showcasing his prowess against a top 10 player.

Meanwhile, Coco Gauff, the 19-year-old American talent, secured her first-ever Australian Open quarterfinal berth with a commanding 6-1 6-2 victory over Poland’s Magdalena Frech. Gauff’s dominance was evident throughout the match, hitting 21 winners and not facing a single break point. Having won 11 consecutive Grand Slam matches, including her US Open title, Gauff is making a significant impact.

Despite her young age, Gauff expressed a sense of maturity, stating, “I just feel like I’ve lived so many lives the last four years, that I just feel older than 19.” She is now the youngest woman to reach the Australian Open quarterfinals since Agnieszka Radwanska in 2008 and will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the next round.
