32 people are killed and 85 injured in a fiery train crash in Greece.

Dozens of people were killed and scores injured after two trains collided head-on in central Greece, sparking a desperate search for survivors. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, shortly before midnight, in Tempi, central Greece, near the city of Larissa. A passenger train carrying over 350 people collided with a freight train, leaving at least 32 dead and over 85 injured, according to the Greek Fire Service. Recovery efforts are underway, with the focus on the first two carriages of the passenger train, and the death toll is expected to rise. It is still unclear what led to the collision. The passenger train was traveling from the capital Athens to Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, and the incident occurred after a nationwide carnival over the weekend. The Greek railway company, Hellenic Train, which operates both passenger and freight transport, said it was a “head-on collision” between the two trains. The company is fully controlled by Trenitalia, having been acquired by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane in 2017.
