Andrej Karpathy, a prominent figure in artificial intelligence research and one of the original members of OpenAI, announced via a social media platform X that he officially departed from the Microsoft-backed company on Monday. This decision comes after his recent return to OpenAI last year, following his tenure as a senior director for AI at Tesla, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the electric car manufacturer’s AI and driver assistance technologies.

Karpathy’s academic background includes studying under the renowned Stanford AI scientist Fei-Fei Li. His journey with OpenAI began as one of its early team members before transitioning to Tesla.
